Casas das Olas are located in Vilarinho do Souto, Ermelo, in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez at the gates of Peneda-Geres National Park (Minho, Portugal).
All the houses were built from the ruins of homes and pre-existing wineries, which have been built in the early nineteenth century.
Boasting a superb view over the reservoir dam in the Lima River, with two swimming pools available, here our visitors find the ideal place for a well-deserved rest.
Casas das Olas guests can relax in the pools that are at their disposal, in the gardens surrounding the houses, take a walk by footpaths in an oak grove that goes to the waterfront and get to know the village and surrounding area. Casas das Olas are also a great place to read a good book or enjoy the board games that are available in all the houses.
Casas das Olas are at the gates of the Peneda-Geres National Park, where you can perform a number of activities in contact with nature, like riding trails, hiking - trekking, boating, fishing ...
In the heart of the Alto Minho region, Casas das Olas are a great starting point to visit the most typical and well-preserved Portuguese towns and small villages, as well as other sites, and even discover the traditional and delicious cuisine and the "green" wine of this region.

Depending on how far away and what you want to visit, there are many nice places to visit in the area:
- There are a few small traditional villages with great views quite close (7 to 25 km). Please check Soajo, Lindoso, Gavieira, Castro Laboreiro, Peneda (this last one gives the name to the National Park Peneda-Gerês).
- A visit to the other side of the Nacional Park, to Geres, will also give you an idea of the natural beauty of the region.
- We would also advise a visit to the small towns of Ponte de Lima, Arcos de Valdevez and Ponte da Barca, very nice by the river towns at 12 to 25 km from Casas das Olas.
- If you prefer to visit cities and places with more activity you should visit Braga (capital of the Minho region), Guimaraes (first capital of Portugal and were the country started in the year 1143), Viana do Castelo (by the sea and also very nice) all these cities are at 50 to 70 km from Casas das Olas, 1 hour drive.
At 1,5 to 2 hours drive you can go to Oporto or to Spain.
Useful places nearby:
Ponte da Barca (12km), a small town but with restaurants, big supermarkets, pharmacies, etc. Closer you also have Soajo (7km) a village with a small supermarket.
Trails:
A beautiful, 5km, trail that starts at 15 minutes walking from the house, it’s short and flat trail, but it is very nice, since it is always by the Lima River. Great for winter season (easy, safe and close)
Other trails, more challenging up and through the mountains or in other parts of the river are available in the region.
