Villa Alvarium is located in Schenna, a hiking paradise on the sun terrace above Meran. The nearby village centre is within easy walking distance (approx. 1000m). There you will find shopping facilities, restaurants, ice cream parlours and bars, as well as a bicycle rental (400m). The modern and attractive outdoor swimming pool with restaurant, pizzeria and tennis courts is also just a short walk away.
Merano, the world-famous spa town, is only about 5km away. It can be easily reached by bus as well as by car. A wide range of attractions await you there: from the modern thermal baths, the spa centre with its music and wine festivals, to the various markets, the characteristic arcades, the beautiful promenades and the famous racecourse. The most beautiful botanical garden in Italy, Trauttmansdorff, is also only a few kilometres away from Villa Alvarium.
A variety of hiking trails, both for experienced hikers and walkers, surround Scena with the Hirzer area, the "Tschöggelberg" and the Texel Group Nature Park. The numerous nearby cable cars, for example to the Hirzer, the Taser, Merano 2000 or the Vigiljoch, make the ascent and journey easier. Merano 2000 is also a paradise for hiking and skiing in winter. It is the local recreation area for the inhabitants of Merano. Other attractive ski areas are in the immediate vicinity, such as the Schwemmalm in Ulten, the glacier in the Schnalstal Valley and the Obereggen ski area in the Eggental Valley, Sulden, Watles and Schöneben in the Vinschgau Valley.
In spring and autumn, the numerous cycle paths that criss-cross the entire region are particularly popular. The routes from Merano to Bolzano and from Malles to Merano are particularly family-friendly. Mountain bikers will of course also find more challenging routes in the surrounding mountains.
Golfers also get their money's worth in the Burggrafenamt. There are wonderful golf courses in Lana, Appiano, Sarnonico and the Passeier Valley.
