Detailed information
This romantic stone cottage was originally built in 1863 and has been renovated with much attention to detail to retain the rustic traditional Cretan architecture and features. The cottage is located in the Apokoronas region, in the heart of the small traditional village of Douiliana, about 22 km east of the city of Chania. It enjoys a quiet setting next to the village’s old church, far away from the tourist crowds.

The cottage features approx. 80m² of living space spread over two floors and can sleep up to four persons, an ideal holiday accommodation for a couple with one or two children. It is accessed via a traditional wooden door that leads to the inner courtyard. From here you walk directly into the house. The ground floor hosts the open plan living-/dining area with a large seating area next to the open fireplace, a dining table and chairs. On this floor you will also find the fully equipped open plan kitchen and the bathroom. The kitchen is complete with electric cooker and oven, fridge, freezer compartment, coffee machine, electric kettle and a toaster. The bathroom has a shower, wash basin and toilet. A wide wooden staircase leads to the upper floor that features the 25m² wooden ceiling bedroom which is furnished with a 160cm wide double bed and a large armchair that converts into a single bed (sleeping space 195cm x 80cm). An extra bed for a second child can be added. The bedroom also has a cupboard and TV set with USB port.
The bedroom has direct access to the 15m² balcony equipped with a table and chairs and boasting breathtaking views across the village and surrounding mountains. Downstairs, the inner courtyard provides a place to relax amid many shade providing plants and flowers. There is a table and chairs so here you can enjoy a meal or read a book while listening to the soothing sounds of gently splashing water from the small fountain with stone basin.

Access to the cottage is from the main road via a small walking path. Parking is available in a square approx. 30m away. The village of Douliana is situated between the villages of Vamos (2km away) and Kalyves (5km away), offering supermarkets, a post office, banks and various tavernas and restaurants. Douliana’s local taverna is only 150m away from the cottage and 50m away you will find a mini mart and a cosy village square with the local Cafe. The Apokoronas region is a great area for walking, hiking and bicycle tours, near the cottage there are several country paths and small road for you to explore the island’s countryside. The sandy beaches of Almirida and Kalyves are within a 4-5km from the village. If you’re looking to sample some of the best nightlife in Crete, you should go to Chania, the island’s second largest city (about half an hour by car).
