Popular excursion destinations include the Baumannshöhle (Burgmann Cave), the Hermannshöhle (Hermann's Cave), the Regenstein Castle ruins near Blankenburg, the Rappbode Dam (Rappbode Dam), the Elbingerode mines, Wernigerode Castle, Kyffhäuser, and, of course, the Brocken, the highest mountain in Northern Germany.
