Contrary to what the name suggests, Tiefenbach is located around 150 metres above Oberstdorf and offers wonderful views of the Oberstdorf mountains. It takes its name from the "Tueffen", which we now call mountain pines.
Tiefenbach was discovered early on as a spa resort. Today Tiefenbach delights visitors with its scenic highlights.
Tiefenbach impresses with its cosy village romance and scenic highlights. The most famous of these is certainly the Breitachklamm gorge. Central Europe's deepest rocky gorge. The Breitach itself has its source in Baad in the Kleines Walsertal and is around 21 kilometres long. It flows in a north-westerly direction, first through the Kleinwalsertal valley and then through the Breitach valley of the same name. At the Walserschanze, the Austrian-German border, the river reaches German territory and from here, roaring loudly, forces its way through the mighty Breitachklamm gorge. At the source of the Iller on the northern outskirts of Oberstdorf, the Breitach, together with the Trettach and Stillach, then forms the Iller.
